Handcrafted in New Zealand

Nectar & Honey Atelier

Leather wine carriers built to last — handmade in New Zealand for cellar doors that care about quality.

Two crafts that reward patience. Built to age as gracefully as the wine they carry.

Wine & Leather

Bound by Tannin

Most people know tannins from wine — the compounds that give a great red its structure, its colour, and its capacity to age gracefully over decades. They are what let a wine reward patience.

Leather rewards patience in the same way. Cut, stitched, dyed and finished by hand, a good carrier is built slowly and made to age — softening, deepening, and taking on character with every year it is used.

That is the thread that binds wine and leather: not a quick result, but a slow one. Both are shaped by time, by care, and by the quality of what goes into them.

So these carriers aren't only made to hold wine — they're made in the same spirit. Built to age as gracefully as what they carry, and to be worth keeping for years.

My Story

The Maker

I'm Tui Goomes, the leatherworker behind Nectar & Honey Atelier, based in the Bay of Plenty. I grew up on the Chatham Islands, where I first learned the craft from my uncle as a child. Those traditional skills have travelled with me — and found a new home in spaces that crave something New Zealand-made and real.

I came back to leatherwork at 21 and haven't put it down since. What keeps me here is the material itself — every hide is unique, every piece carries the character of a life before and the possibilities of what it can become. I work with premium top grain leather — chosen because it ages, it patinas, and lasts in ways only real leather does.

Having lived and worked abroad, I've come home to make things for people who value craft done properly. The wine carriers grew out of the work naturally — one piece leading to the next. But the motivation behind all of it is straightforward: leathercraft is a skill worth keeping alive, and every piece I make should be genuinely worth having. The best wine and the best leather have always had the same thing in common — neither can be rushed.

"Knowing how to make things with raw materials is a blessing. A tradition I've inherited and a treasured skill I share through my work." — Tui Goomes, Founder

Common Questions

Before You Order

What is the minimum order for wholesale leather wine carriers?

The minimum wholesale order is 10 carriers at $99 NZD each. You can mix colours and hardware finishes within a single order. I also offer a 3-piece sampler pack ($390 NZD) for wineries that want to see and feel the quality before placing a full wholesale order.

How much does a leather wine carrier cost?

Wholesale carriers are $99 NZD each at the 10-unit minimum. The 3-piece sampler pack is $390 NZD ($130 per carrier, one in each colour). All prices are in NZD with full payment at checkout for standard orders.

How long does a wholesale order take?

Standard orders ship in 3–4 weeks. Orders over 200 units allow an extra 2 weeks. First-time custom-stamp orders allow 6 weeks for stamp production and crafting. Every carrier is handmade to order in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand — I do not hold stock.

What type of leather do you use?

All carriers are made from 1.8–2mm premium top grain New Zealand leather.

What is the difference between vegetable tanned and chrome tanned leather?

There are two main ways to tan leather. Vegetable tanning uses natural tannins drawn from plant matter like oak bark and chestnut; it is the oldest method and develops a rich patina as it ages. Chrome tanning uses mineral salts; it is faster and produces a softer, more water-resistant and colour-stable leather, and is the most common method used today. Both make excellent leather — the right choice comes down to the piece and how it will be used.

Can I add my winery's logo to the carriers?

Yes. Custom logo stamping is available on all wholesale orders of 10 or more carriers in silver, gold, or natural (heat transfer). Provide your logo as SVG, PNG, PDF, AI, or EPS. I produce a proof before production begins.

What sizes of wine carrier are available?

Standard 750ml carriers, which also fit champagne bottles. Custom sizes are available via my bespoke service.

Do you ship outside New Zealand?

Yes. I ship wholesale orders throughout New Zealand and accept enquiries from Australian and international cellar doors and hospitality groups. Freight is quoted per order based on quantity and destination.

Are the wine carriers genuinely handmade?

Yes. Every carrier is hand-cut, hand-stitched, dyed, and finished by me in my Bay of Plenty workshop. Nectar & Honey Atelier is not a factory operation — each piece is individually crafted from premium top grain leather.

Do you offer leather favors for weddings and events?

Yes. I produce custom leather favors and event keepsakes for weddings, cellar door events, and luxury venues across New Zealand. Visit my events page or contact me for a custom quote.
